Tax Season

Just curious cause I got my W-2 in the mail today (OK, Ben's) and I wondered who does your taxes? I've always done ours, but we don't own our own business, so it isn't so hard. My grandaddy worked for the IRS and he helped me the first few years I was married and I've done it myself since then. I love Turbo Tax cause it catches things I might have missed as deductions, and it does all my calculating for me. I love getting the W-2 in the mail so we can see how far we've come since we were newlyweds, going to school full time and working part time, raising our little boy. Then, when we joined the military, knowing it was what we needed to do so I could be a stay home mom, pay for Ben's schooling, and get some work experience, I don't think I realized the pay cut we'd be taking. We were poorer than poor. We were blessed with free base housing and utilities and Ben's wonderful supervisors who watched out for our needs, not to mention a wonderful ward with many lasting friends who made sure not only our needs were met, but also the needs of so many enlisted airmen in the ward boundaries. Ben set a goal (a salary goal by age 35) years ago and I'm excited to say that we made it to our goal, only 2 years slower than planned. That doesn't mean our finances are perfect, but we're plugging along slowly.

I was wondering the same thing about who to have do our taxes this year! I remember the military days oh so well. Glad we were able to go through them together. You taught me so much, I wouldn't have made it through without you.

You are too sweet, I was thinking I wouldn't have made it without you. I was at the temple recently and I peeked into the room where you and Paul and the boys were sealed, it brought tears to my eyes just remembering.

We use Turbo Tax as well...it's so easy and a lot cheaper than paying an actual person to do it!

We pay someone to do it, but ours are complicated because we own 2 businesses. When we were first married we had a tax-savvy family member help us, but after we paid someone to help us it opened our eyes to things we'd missed.

We have a great guy - he lives far but is SO worth the drive. He used to work for the IRS and now has his own accounting business - let's just say we were REALLY happy last year with our return and he said he wants to double check previous years because he knows we missed things. It was so worth the $90 instead of Turbo Tax that we normally use.

I usually do mine but ours aren't complicated at all. One of these days, I'd love to be an actual accountant and I could do all of your taxes...not for a while though. Congrats on making it to your salary goal - that's awesome!

I do ours as well, pretty simple with turbo tax. That's what I got my degree in, I'm not too rusty so if you have a question, let me know!

Luckily enough my father in law has a tax business and he does our taxes every year! He is awesome and not too expensive if you are interested.

We use H&R Block on line and have done so for about four or five years now. It has been free for us in the past because of our income versus # of kids ratio, but excitingly I think we will have to pay this year... that is a good thing. I can pay the $20 or $30 fee for our income almost tripling this year. Ü

We owe a chunk of change to the lovely IRS. I will be moving out of the country before March.
