So, lastnight, Vance and Marly were planning on hanging out with friends. They weren't leaving until probably after dark, so when the call for a babysitter came from someone in the ward, I offered Drew. Drew was so excited for his first non-family babysitting job. He came highly recommended from his mom. I remember when Vance was little, our favorite babysitter was a 12 year old boy from the ward. Anyway, Drew was hired so then I was down 3 babysitters and #4 was called in. As I stood at the bottom of the stairs and explained to the girls that as Vance, Marly, and Drew leave tonight, once they are gone, Skylar would be in charge. The reply from Tawny caught me off guard, "Yes! He's the best babysitter EVER!!" She was highly dramatic about it, I must add, with fists in the air and a loud voice. I quickly asked why she thought that and she said, "cause he plays with us!" Duh!
So today, I finally asked Skylar why he thought she would say he was the best babysitter. His reply was quick and off the tip of his tongue "Cause I give them options." I inquired further as to what that meant. I found out that at the start of his shift, he offers them three choices 1- Play house, 2 - I can't remember what that one was, and 3 - Mattress surfing on the stairs. Come to find out, they love to mattress surf, but they love playing house even more because Skylar always plays with them. He was quick to add however, (after I told him how cute and sweet he was) that when he was as old as Drew, playing house wouldn't be an option:)
So, the moral to the story, to be the best babysitter ever, all you have to do is play with the kids you are babysitting. I wonder if Drew did...

he was awesome! we came home to find both kids in bed. i only asked him to put troy to bed. he put on a movie and caleb feel asleep too. the toys were cleaned up and everything. caleb said that they played and watched a movie. caleb really had fun!! i told drew that we would most definately call him again...even brandon was impressed and that's hard to do.
oh, i have dibs on drew if anyone is thinking of hiring him too ;)!!!
We've never hired an "out of the family" babysitter, but I'll keep these boys in mind...especially if they come highly recommended by their sisters.
I just asked Tawny who her favorite babysitter was, and she said "Skylar" because he gives us options. She included a movie & popcorn in her options. She also said that the worst option ever is when he wants to play video games and they just sit and watch. THAT sounds like MY big brother!
